The difference between an NPC the table forgets and one they adopt is rarely the stat block — it's a quirk you can perform and a want you can play against. This generator builds from those parts: a name, a job that places them in the world, one performable quirk, a motivation the party can lean on, and a secret you can detonate three sessions later.
The secret is the plot hook
Most generated NPCs die in the notebook because they have nothing to do. The secret line gives every one of them a loaded spring — small enough to ignore, sharp enough to build a session around when the party inevitably pokes at the wrong merchant.

Yes — the NPCs are system-free: no stats, no rules text, just character. They drop into D&D, Pathfinder, Call of Cthulhu, or any homebrew game unchanged. Game names are mentioned here only to describe compatibility.
What does "Add to Session Notes" do?
