A few things I've learned scaling recipes:
Scaling the numbers is the easy part — this tool handles that. What the math won't tell you is that some things don't scale 1:1. Salt and strong spices are the big ones: double a recipe and you usually want a little less than double the salt, then adjust at the end by tasting. Same with garlic and chili — they get louder in bulk.
Liquids and reductions are the other trap. If you scale up a sauce, you've got more liquid to cook off, so go by how it looks and coats a spoon, not by the original time. A bigger batch almost always takes longer to reduce than you'd expect.
And when in doubt, scale by weight instead of volume. Cups get unreliable fast when you're multiplying — a scale is the cheapest upgrade to your cooking I can think of.
